Evangelism Through Education

Sowing Salvation’s Seed by Teaching Children How to Read

What is Evangelism through Education?

Churches evangelize most effectively when they address their community’s most pressing needs.  One of those needs is education.  Parents recognize that schools are not meeting their children’s most important need which is to learn how to read.

Evangelism through Education is an outreach program that helps churches to engage families for Christ by providing parents and children with literacy skills through online and in person reading classes.  Education provides opportunities for evangelization because it allows churches to show God’s love through concern for the community.  When parents begin to see churches as compassionate Centers of Reading Excellence, they will be more willing to come to the church (or for the church to come to them) and to meet God through His people and His Word.

How can churches bring E.T.E. to their communities?

ScholarSkills for STARS is a 501c3 educational organization which helps churches implement E.T.E. in their communities.

The Evangelism through Education Curriculum consists of scripted lessons for teachers, interactive instructional videos, workbooks for students, and an online reading academy that helps students practice and master essential literacy skills during the week.

Is this curriculum easy to use?

Yes. Parents, tutors, and students can begin using the program in less than 5 minutes.  The self-teaching videos are so user friendly and engaging that children as young as 4 years old can learn to do it by themselves.

Do church members have to earn professional degrees to teach reading?

No! The E.T.E. Literacy Program equips parents and church members to teach children how to read. Parents and other instructors simply need maximum commitment to learning so that they can help kids to learn.

Will our church need a separate program on a separate day to implement the reading skills program?

Not necessarily. Churches can implement the E.T.E. curriculum through reading classes on Sundays which are called Sunday School for Monday School.  Sunday School for Monday School allows churches to use the E.T.E. WORD Reading curriculum in a seamless, organic manner.  Since the program uses the Bible as part of its literacy curriculum, it can be taught as an educational enrichment segment of any Sunday School Class and to any age group—including adults who need to improve their literacy skills.  Lessons can be taught in 10-15 minutes.

The E.T.E. Reading Program can also be used as a standalone enrichment curriculum to provide effective academic and biblical literacy during the week and on Sundays for both the church and the community.

Please note, however, that Federal Faith Based Funding Initiatives will only support the reading enrichment program that is not conducted at the same time as religious-based worship services.
